Apartment call boxes
An apartment call box is the panel at your building's entrance — visitors find your name or unit code, press call, and the box dials a phone number on file. If your call box can dial a phone number, Enterkey works with it: your entry gets pointed at your Enterkey number, and from then on you answer from anywhere or let a key buzz visitors in automatically.
How does a call box actually work?
Most call boxes are telephone-entry systems: the panel is wired to a phone line (or a cellular unit), and each directory entry maps a unit to a phone number. When a visitor calls your unit, the box places a real phone call. You press a digit — typically 6, 9 or * — and the box hears that tone and releases the door.
That's the whole trick, and it's why no hardware is needed: Enterkey receives the call instead of your cell, and when a key is active it answers and plays the unlock tone itself. Visitors are in before your phone would have finished its first ring.
What about gate call boxes?
Gated communities use the same mechanism at the vehicle gate — a pedestal box that dials out. If your gate box calls your phone today, Enterkey handles it the same way it handles a lobby panel: forwarding when you want to screen, automatic entry when a key or schedule is active.
How do you tell if yours is compatible?
The test is simple: when a visitor buzzes your unit, does your cell phone (or a phone number you chose) ring? If yes, your system dials out — and Enterkey works by giving it a smarter number to dial. If your buzzer only rings a wired handset inside your unit and can't call an outside line, it isn't compatible.
