DoorKing

DoorKing telephone entry call boxes, like the 1834 and 1835, dial a phone number for each resident, so Enterkey can answer them. Here's how to check.

DoorKing makes many of the telephone entry call boxes you see at apartment doors and gated driveways across the US, the 1834, 1835, 1837 and 1838 among them. A DoorKing telephone entry system stores a phone number for each resident and dials it when a visitor enters that resident's directory code. That is exactly what Enterkey needs: point your entry at your Enterkey number and the call box rings every phone in your household, opens on its own while a timed key is active, and lets guests in with their own codes.

Which DoorKing call boxes work?

DoorKing's telephone entry systems dial out over a phone line or a cellular module, and the resident unlocks the gate or door by pressing a key on the call. If buzzing your directory code makes a phone ring today, your DoorKing box is a dial-out system and Enterkey can take that call. A DoorKing panel set up as a plain intercom, ringing a wired station inside the unit with no outside number, has nothing to forward and isn't compatible.

Gate pedestals work the same way as lobby panels. If the box at your community's vehicle gate calls your phone, the same directory change puts it on your Enterkey number. Apartment call boxes explains the mechanism in more detail.

Who changes the number on a DoorKing system?

Your property manager or HOA, or the access-control company they hire. DoorKing directories are edited on the keypad or in DoorKing's account software, and the change is one field: the phone number stored against your directory code. This request template tells them exactly what to change and how to undo it.

How do you tell if yours is compatible?

The test is simple: when a visitor buzzes your unit, does your cell phone (or a phone number you chose) ring? If yes, your system dials out, and Enterkey works by giving it a smarter number to dial. If your buzzer only rings a wired handset inside your unit and can't call an outside line, it isn't compatible.

Not sure? Ask your property manager one question: "Can the directory entry for my unit point at any phone number?" If the answer is yes, you're set: see how Enterkey works, and if you get stuck, support@enterkey.app answers within hours.

Ready to ask? This request template is written to be forwarded as is: it tells your manager exactly which field to change and how to undo it.

Try it on your own buzzer
